DeSantis touts free state park entry for Memorial Day weekend, announces sales tax holiday
Gov. Ron DeSantis stopped in Naples Tuesday to make a special announcement for the Memorial Day weekend.“ I am pleased to be able to be here today to announce, because we want as many people to be able to enjoy this as possible, that for the entire Memorial Day weekend, we are suspending all entry fees for all Florida state parks," the governor announced.Later, at another press conference, this one in Tampa, DeSantis announced that he would be signing the Freedom Summer Sales Tax Holiday, in the budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25. The Sales Tax Holiday will take place the entire month of July and will make items such as fishing supplies, outdoor recreation equipment, admissions to state parks and, museums sales tax free.
SWFL arrests made in cybercrime cases involving child sexual abuse material
The arrest of three men in connection with separate and unrelated child sexual abuse material cases was described today by Florida Attorney General James Uthemeyer at a media briefing in Fort Myers.Those arrested included former LaBelle resident 46-year-old Jason Harrison of Jacksonville, 41-year-old Kevin Sheffield of Naples and 34-year-old Travis Montgomery of Bradenton.

A water shortage in Cape Coral and Lee County. Parched soil and worsening drought throughout Southwest Florida. Wildfires are expected next, and not small ones.The restrictions were put into place to protect the Mid-Hawthorn Aquifer and drinking water supply in that area. The area affected is bound by NE Pine Island Road on the south, Neilson Road N on the west, NE 24th Avenue and Garden Boulevard on the east and the Gator Slough Canal on the north.

COVID-19 Morning Report
State health officials reported 4,423 new COVID-19 cases, Wednesday, for a total of 821,123 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported 88 new coronavirus-related deaths Nov. 4 increasing the statewide death toll to 17,131 fatalities.Over the past seven days, the single-day average number of new infections reported stands at 4,385 cases. The average number of daily deaths reported over the past week comes to nearly 59 fatalities a day.
