Collier County raising awareness during Human Trafficking Prevention Month
Florida consistently ranks near the top of the list among states when it comes to the most reported cases of human trafficking. January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, so joins us and explore what role the health department in Collier County plays in raising awareness about this issue to help combat it, and increase the public’s understanding about what to look for in hopes of uncovering cases.

Why is it so dangerous on Lee County's roadways for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians?
Lee County is having a record-breaking year for traffic fatalities. As of Dec. 8, there have been 119 traffic fatalities in the county, including 9 bicyclists and 24 pedestrians. Those numbers are up from last year, and continue a years-long trend of increasing traffic-related deaths here in Southwest Florida. We explore some of the reasons behind these numbers and this ongoing trend with Jay Anderson, he is Executive director of the nonprofit Stay Alive....Just Drive! and a longtime advocate for traffic safety; and Dan Moser, he is a founding member of the BikeWalkLee Coalition and a traffic safety consultant in Lee County.

Lee County arts organizations struggle to replace lost grant dollars
Last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed $32 million in arts and culture grants that had been approved by the Florida Legislature. This year, the state’s $115.5 billion budget includes $18.3 million in arts and culture grants, but only a handful of Southwest Florida arts organizations qualified for a share of that money. For the second year in a row, 14 Lee county arts organizations were denied state funding, including the Alliance for the Arts and Florida Repertory Theatre. Each of Lee’s arts organizations is employing a medley of measures to make up for the loss of state grants.

Lee Health confirms one positive test for measles in Lee County
The Florida Department of Health dashboard reports 66 measles cases in Collier County and one in Lee County from the beginning of the year until Feb. 14, which is the latest data they are making public. Statewide that number for the same period is 92.
Rabies alert issued in Charlotte County after bat tests positive
Charlotte County Animal Control, in coordination with the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County, has issued a 30-day rabies alert following confirmation that a bat in the McKee Street/Bennett Drive area of Port Charlotte tested positive for rabies.
