The Collier County Board of County Commissioners has authorized a burn ban due to deteriorating near-drought conditions. According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, 99 percent of Collier County is now under abnormally dry conditions.

Lee County Recovery Task Force schedules town hall meetings
One of the goals of ResilientLee, the public-facing aspect of the Lee County Recovery Task Force, is community engagement. Beginning April 19, the Recovery Task Force will host a series of countywide town hall meetings to engage residents. The meetings will last two hours and include facilitated discussions to encourage public involvement in the recovery-planning process.

Summer VPK registration opens in Lee, Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties
Registration for Voluntary Prekindergarten is now open for summer programs in Lee, Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties. The free educational program is available to 4-year-olds that reside in Florida, regardless of family income.Voluntary Prekindergarten gives children a jump-start by preparing them for school and enhancing their pre-reading, pre-math, language, and social skills. VPK classrooms are taught by certified teachers with a focus on school readiness and social and emotional well-being. By developing the early skills children need to become strong students, they are more likely to be successful in school.

Lee County Health officials: stay out of the water, and be wary on the beaches
Four months after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida state health officials are once again warning beachgoers to stay out of the water, but this time their alert says stay off the sand, too. Shards of debris have been washed onto beaches and lawns, and there is a spike in the number of cases of the very dangerous "flesh-eating bacteria."
Lee County closing existing inland food, water Points of Distribution
Inland-oriented Points of Distribution in Lee County will close as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Such PODs are typically established for five to seven days immediately following a disaster.
