Don again a tropical storm; low pressure system moves west; heat advisory sustains in SWFL, S. Fla.
Hurricane Don was short-lived, returning to tropical storm status Sunday and likely to lose tropical characteristics by early Monday while a low pressure system still has a chance to become a tropical depression during the next few days while it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic and eastern Caribbean Sea. Additionally, heat advisories were continued in most of Southwest and South Florida.
NCH and Florida Blue still at odds over contract; deadline is Sept. 30; viability of care network at stake
Florida Blue health insurance and NCH Healthcare System are coming dangerously close to being unable to reach a contractual agreement. NCH may be considered out of network at the end of September if the two parties can’t come to an agreement.

Federal firings filtering down to workers in Southwest Florida; Big Cypress NP, Bay Pines VA affected
One person was laid off at Big Cypress National Park and “several” are now without jobs at Bay Pines VA Hospital as federal downsizing under the Trump Administration begins to affect Southwest Florida.The person out of a job at Big Cypress was on a probationary period and was laid off on Tuesday, Feb. 18, said Michelle Hanson, lands and permits coordinator at the park.

Newman Drive wildfire near Naples prompts evacuations. Limited visibility is possible overnight due to the smoke, and the east winds will move the smoke plume toward the Metro Southwest Coast of Florida.
Advocates say 'bring Dunbar home' as Lee Commissioners consider new district maps
The Lee County Board of Commissioners will hold its next public hearing about redistricting on Tuesday, November 2 at 6:00pm. When the current district maps were drawn back in 2011 many of the homes in the Fort Myers Dunbar community were moved into District 4, which is primarily made up of North Fort Myers across the Caloosahatchee River. As commissioners consider new map proposals, we highlight efforts to get them to choose a new map which would reunite the Dunbar community with Fort Myers.

Addressing the Increase in Homelessness Across SWFL
The financial instability many people face as a result of the pandemic has put more people at risk of losing their housing. A national eviction moratorium established by the CDC is set to expire on December 31 and local governments have until then to use federal CARES Act relief funds designated to help people with past due rent and utilities. We talk with Janet Bartos, Executive Director of the Lee County Homeless Coalition, and the City of Fort Myers’ new mayor Kevin Anderson, about efforts being made to help people experiencing homelessness and those at risk.
