Collier County League of Women Voters produce 'Civics Unplugged' video series
The League of Women Voters began as a national, nonpartisan nonprofit political organization that was founded in 1920, just a few months before the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guaranteed women the right to vote. The Collier County chapter is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. One of their main information sources is Vote411.org. It’s a one-stop shop for information about who and what will be on ballots for each election. We learn about their new educational effort is a series of videos called Civics Unplugged which cover basic government functions like the three branches, the houses of Congress, Constitutional Amendments, and more.

Rain deluge does have an upside: Burn ban lifted for Lee County
A burn ban put into place by Lee County just a week ago has now been lifted due to rain.Lee County enacted the ban for unincorporated Lee County and municipalities due to increasingly dry conditions throughout Southwest Florida. The ban went into effect late Tuesday, June 4, when the drought index hit 600.
Collier Community Foundation's new snapshot of Collier County and the needs of its residents
Collier County is a wealthy county. According to data from the financial technology company SmartAsset, Collier County is the second wealthiest county in Florida. But, alongside that wealth many country residents are struggling. According to the Collier County Community and Human Services Division nearly 53,000 people commute to work every day from outside the county, and 35% of jobs in the county pay less than $35k a year. We talk with the Collier Community Foundation’s President & CEO to go over the highlights of a new community assessment that identifies the challenges county residents are facing, and the challenges the community foundation faces in trying to support them.

Federal, state law enforcement officers arrested in separate Collier County incidents
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer and a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigator have been arrested in separate cases.The CPB and is facing charges that he stole cash from an international airline passenger during the course of his employment as a CBP officer at Naples Airport.A criminal complaint names William Joseph Timothy, 43, Naples, as the officer. If convicted, Timothy faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
