Lee Commissioners launch Affordable Housing programs
The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to launch Affordable Housing Development New Construction Programs with the publication of the Notice of Funding Availability for up to $200 million from Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds.Lee County’s CDBG-DR Action Plan includes Affordable Housing and Development Programs that provide grant funding for the development and preservation of affordable housing units.
Annual Tire Amnesty Day January 17; focus is on eradicating mosquito breeding opportunities
An unlikely hero is helping empty out garages for Annual Tire Amnesty Day. Lee County Mosquito Control, located off Homestead Road, will collect up to eight tires from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan 17. The effort is a collaboration with Lee County Solid Waste and the Rotary Club of Fort Myers East to clear neighborhoods of discarded tires.
Bonita Beach lovers anticipate state coastal resiliency grant
Lee County applied this month for the Resilient Florida Grant Program, which aims to provide money to counties for coastal resilience planning. The purpose of creating a coastal resiliency goal is to address impacts of flooding and sea level rise that face Lee County.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the No. 3 Republican in the House, has made it clear that he wants President Obama's health overhaul law repealed. But conservative lawmakers in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., and elsewhere in the state are expanding insurance coverage for low-income adults.

Quiet, cool and peaceful — that's not how many students usually describe their big yellow school-buses. But in rural Glades County, students have changed their opinions. Until the 2023-24 school year, Glades County’s school buses were entirely diesel. And the fleet was aging.
