Lee County to Unveil Phase 3 of its post-Hurricane Irma Flood-Mitigation Efforts
Back in 2017 a major rain event was followed just two weeks later by Hurricane Irma, dumping up to 30 inches of rain on some areas of Lee County. The subsequent flooding destroyed homes and put lives at risk, which prompted county commissioners to approve a three phase plan to mitigate flooding in the future.

Lee County Commissioners Tuesday approved a $500,000 interest-free loan to help an affordable housing project in North Fort Myers. The Hermosa community could provide 72 multi-family units for low-income seniors.

DeSoto County Commissioners vote no, 3-2, on biosolid sludge for placement on agriculture fields
By a narrow margin Tuesday night, a majority of the DeSoto County Commission voted to deny allowing biosolids sludge — the remains of human waste — to be brought into the county so it can be composted as fertilizer.The vote was 3 to 2 to deny a special exception for the sludge plan.
Bus drivers speak out about too few drivers and safety issues in Lee County
Many drivers made their voices heard during the public comment period of Tuesday night’s school district’s regular board meeting, even though it wasn’t on the agenda. The public comments period lasted well over an hour with bus drivers telling board members about the long hours, poor pay, and safety issues.
