Hurricane Ian - Insurance issues for barrier island residents, and efforts to help teachers in Lee County who lost their homes
Sanibel Island took a direct hit when Hurricane Ian made landfall two weeks ago. It was about 10 days before any residents were able to make it back to the island, but efforts are now underway to begin the process of removing the contents of water-soaked homes that experienced up to 12-feet of storm surge in some areas. And, the process is also underway to begin filing insurance claims. We get a glimpse into the issues around insurance that barrier island residents like those on Sanibel are facing right now with Chris Heidrick, he is Agency Principal at Heidrick & Co. Insurance on Sanibel Island.

Milton forecast as a major hurricane, will impact Florida; DeSantis issues state of emergency in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, other counties
Floridians are urged to prepare for another hurricane as Milton is forecast to impact the state next week. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting a major hurricane to impact some parts of the State.

Land in Collier, Hendry and Okeechobee counties part of more than 21,500 acres of strategic areas approved by the state
A land acquisition approved by the state Wednesday includes 10,996 acres within the Caloosahatchee Big Cypress Corridor in Collier and Hendry counties. Also approved for purchased was a 1,059-acre rural lands protection easement within the Siboney Ranch Project in Okeechobee County.
