Lee County high school junior awarded first place in US District Court Middle District of Florida essay contest
A Fort Myers eleventh grader was awarded first place in the U.S. District Court essay contest. Noah Moon described his experience founding a nonprofit organization that brings youth together through sports. As president of Athletes Activating Champions for Empowerment (AACE), Moon uses his love for sports to mentor those around him and provide a supportive space for kids from all backgrounds.
FWC confirms receiving 25 reports of dead manatees in Lee County Feb. 13-18; possibly cold stress related
Reports of at least 25 dead manatees in Lee County have been received by Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials. A statement from the FWC says that they recently received an increase in reports of deceased manatees in the Orange River and surrounding areas of Fort Myers.
Bonita Springs, Wonder Gardens OK 10-year pact; accreditation sought for park, city to get $3M
The Wonder Gardens and the City of Bonita Springs have solidified a 10-year partnership. The agreement will require the Wonder Gardens to pay $50,000 a year in rent, and give the City at least $3 million over the 10-year period.Neil Anderson, the CEO of the Wonder Gardens, believes it’s the beginning of a new period of growth for both parties.

A Lehigh Acres woman is going to spend 10 years in federal prison for a fraud scheme that netted her nearly $4.2 million.As part of her sentence, U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber ordered 49-year-old Madelyn Hernandez to forfeit $4,199,498.42, the proceeds of the wire fraud.
