Canadian lawmakers extend emergency powers act for truck protests
The act allows authorities to declare certain areas as no-go zones. It also allows police to freeze truckers' personal and corporate bank accounts and compel tow truck companies to haul away vehicles.
We get a post-Ian update from the Harry Chapin Food Bank of SWFL, and learn about the special challenges they face during the summer months
Before the pandemic, The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida was spending almost $40,000 dollars a month to buy food. That jumped to $1.4 million a month during the first year of the pandemic, and has remained high ever since. According to their president & CEO, Richard LeBer, they’re currently having to spend almost a million dollars a month to provide food to those in need. Add the challenges and increased need brought about by Hurricane Ian, and the coming summer months when kids are out of school and seasonal workers have less income, and it’s easy to see how hard the staff and volunteers at the Harry Chapin Food Bank must be working to continue meeting the demand for food across this region.

Armed bank robber, 71, pleads guilty to Fort Myers Halloween heist
An Ohio man is facing a possible life prison sentence after pleading guilty to the Halloween armed robbery of a Fort Myers bank.Grant Elmore Davis, Jr. , 71, of Mansfield, Ohio, entered a guilty plea Wednesday to charges of armed bank robbery, discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. A sentencing date has not been set.
Lane restrictions, changes listed for motorists on Sanibel Causeway
Lane changes and other work on the Sanibel Causeway restoration project will mean some restrictions and other effects drivers will need to watch for in the coming weeks and months.
Thousands get free water, ice and food in Southwest Florida
Thousands of Southwest Floridians are getting water, ice and food at distribution points and give-away locations across the region. The local government and some volunteer groups are operating the distributions of emergency supplies after Hurricane Ian.

Those affected by Hurricane Helene can apply for FEMA assistance to take care of critical needs.FEMA may provide financial help to assist you with home repairs, temporary housing, or property damage (appliances, furniture, vehicle, etc). You may also qualify for help with childcare, medical, lodging, moving, and funeral expenses.
Southwest Florida International Airport remote, reserved parking option will be available Dec. 20-24
Southwest Florida International Airport will offer passengers a remote and reserved parking option from Wednesday, Dec. 20, through Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, with vehicles permitted to exit from Christmas Day through Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024. The RSWRemote parking lot is on the north side of the airport property. The cost will be a flat $40 fee, no matter how many days are selected to park and is non-refundable.
