FWC tranquilizes black bear spotted in downtown Fort Myers; animal to be relocated from area
Fort Myers Police were monitoring a black bear in the area of Broadway and Victoria Avenue in the city Monday morning.Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission officers managed to corral and tranquilize the animal to be transplanted elsewhere.

Registration for Voluntary Prekindergarten is now open for summer programs in Lee, Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties. The free educational program is available to 4-year-olds that reside in Florida, regardless of family income.Voluntary Prekindergarten gives children a jump-start by preparing them for school and enhancing their pre-reading, pre-math, language, and social skills. VPK classrooms are taught by certified teachers with a focus on school readiness and social and emotional well-being. By developing the early skills children need to become strong students, they are more likely to be successful in school.

Florida Gulf Coast University announced Monday that Colin Hargis, currently at N.C. State University, has accepted the university's offer to be FGCU’s next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "I am thrilled to announce Colin Hargis has accepted our offer to become FGCU’s next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics," FGCU President Aysegul Timur said in an email to faculty and staff Monday afternoon.

USCG suspends search for man who fell overboard from fishing vessel 80 miles off Sanibel Island
The United States Coast Guard has suspended a search for a man who fell off a fishing vessel 80 miles off Sanibel Island, Saturday, pending new information.Missing is 29-year-old Sterling Grover of Palm Harbor.
