Lee Library System celebrates 60 years of offering info free of charge
The Lee Library System has spent the last 60 years combining the resources of libraries across the county to provide information and technology free of charge to anyone who steps through the doors. With more than 273,000 free cardholders and over 1.5 million visitors this year alone, Lee County libraries offer various programs and resources, from early literacy programs and homework resources to downloadable books and streamable movies.
Cape Coral councilmember arrested after SAO investigation
An arrest warrant issued Monday for Cape Coral councilmember Patty L. Cummings charged her with three third degree felonies: Fraudulent Application for Driver License and two counts of False Swearing in Connection with or Arising Out of Voting or Elections.She surrendered at the Lee County Sheriff's Office Tuesday afternoon.
Sanibel Causeway restoration substantially done, all lanes open
All travel lanes across the Sanibel Causeway are now open and work on the roadway is substantially complete, a report from the Florida Department of Transporation said late Friday. Once through the toll plaza, motorists will now be able to drive to Sanibel with more predictable travel times and no altered traffic patterns around which to maneuver.
Lee school district gets $1.2M Workforce Development Grant
The School District of Lee County will receive $1.2 million as part of it's share of a $25 million state Workforce Development grant announced last week. The grant will allow the District to add or expand career programs that provide students the essential skills required for success in high-demand occupations.

Chabad of Charlotte County and Shalom Babcock hosted the menorah lighting Thursday. The ceremony symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, a message that resonates universally and embodies the essence of the Hanukkah festival. A candle on the menorah will be lit each night for the next eight nights.

Naples Botanical Garden uses fire as a means for plant growth
With no history of fire on a Naples Botanical Garden parcel for at least the past 40 years, a tremendous volume of natural debris, such as pine needles, considered fuel for fire, had accumulated. That fuel load created a fire risk — keep in mind that the Garden is sandwiched between residential developments.A prescribed fire Tuesday helped lessen that fuel load.
Lee's Black History Society, Edison and Ford Winter Estates honor reciprocal membership in January
Lee County Black History Society and Edison and Ford Winter Estates is offering free daytime admission during the month of January to either museum with membership to one of the organizations.The reciprocal agreement is for daytime admission at Edison and Ford Winter Estates for members of the Lee County Black History Society.
Public hearings scheduled in Lee County for HUD housing programs
Lee County will host a series of public hearings in accordance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations governing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant, and HOME programs.The county stressed that the meetings are part of the county’s annual allocation of HUD funding and are not related to disaster recovery.
