Storm cuts power in Tallahassee; several tornado warnings issued
A powerful squall line with embedded tornadoes tore through the Panhandle early this morning.This line of storms moved through the western Panhandle overnight and into the capitol region before sunrise this morning. Several tornado warnings were triggered by strong areas of radar-indicated rotation detected by the Tallahassee radar, before the storm temporarily disabled the NWS Tallahassee radar.
Smoke testing of sanitary sewers planned in City of Fort Myers
Contractors for the City of Fort Myers will be conducting sanitary sewer evaluation smoke tests Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24.The goal of the comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey is to reduce the amount groundwater and storm water from entering the system, reducing the risk of sanitary sewer overflows, and improving overall system reliability.
Lee County school Curriculum Committee revisits media access form, recommends a change
The Curriculum Advisory Committee for Lee County public schools had their final meeting of this school year last evening, to vote on a contentious issue.

Record-setting Atlantic hurricane season forecast for 2024
Commercial weather forecasting company Accuweather on Wednesday repeated earlier forecasts about the intensity of the coming hurricane season. The company said a turbulent year in the tropics is expected, possibly approaching a record-setting pace that could run through the entire list of names for tropical storms and hurricanes -- and beyond.
Survey suggests there could be a mass exodus of workers if Collier's housing crisis isn't blunted
A staggering 64 percent of Collier County public school employees who took part in a survey say they fear they will have to leave their jobs because of lack of affordable housing.

NASA completes analysis of recovered International Space Station part that hit Naples home
NASA ground controllers used the International Space Station’s robotic arm in March 2021 to release a cargo pallet containing aging nickel hydride batteries from the space station following the delivery and installation of new lithium-ion batteries as part of power upgrades on the orbital outpost. About 5,800 pounds of hardware was released from the space station.Rocket forward to March 8 of this year and a piece of the hardware that was expected to fully burn up during entry through Earth’s atmosphere survived re-entry and impacted a home in Naples.
