FGCU student catches video of bear checking out dormitory trash
A week after an FGCU alert cautioned that bears were seen in the North Village student housing area of the university, a student at the South Village captured a wandering Yogi on video.The morning of June 24 the university issued a warning — "Eagle Alert: Bears seen near North Lake Village area, searching for trash. Please exercise caution. Use trash compactor-no trash bags in breezeways or open dumpsters."
Prescribed fire activities planned on Big Cypress National Preserve
South Florida Fire & Aviation will conduct a series of prescribed fire operations across Big Cypress National Preserve over the coming months, as weather conditions and other parameters permit. The planned treatment areas cover approximately 115,639 acres in three separate burn units, strategically placed throughout the preserve as part of a multi-year fuels treatment plan.

A New Jersey drug company is recalling more than 140,000 bottles of a prescribed cholesterol drug that it found did not meet the required standards.Ascend Laboratories says it is recalling Atorvastatin calcium tablets in 10, 20,40 and 80 milligram dosages. This product is the generic version of the popular and much-prescribed drug Lipitor.
City of Naples receives FEMA obligation for Naples Pier rebuild
A FEMA grant of more than $11 million has been granted Naples for the reconstruction of the iconic and popular city pier.The funds, $11,401,144.20, were announced Friday afternoon by Congressman Byron Donalds.
D-SNAP sites planned for Lee, Manatee and DeSoto counties
Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) locations are being planned in DeSoto, Lee, and Manatee counties. D-SNAP provides food assistance for Florida residents impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton who are not receiving food assistance through the regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
LeeTran activating route changes for River District trolleys and Fort Myers Beach trams on Thursday
LeeTran will end the seasonal River District trolleys and Fort Myers Beach trams at the end close of service on April 23. Additionally, the Lehigh Park & Ride/Transfer will begin operation on April 24.
