Fort Myers CRA approves $30M rebate; $700K for housing
FEMA OKs additional $51.4M reimbursement for Hurricane Ian debris removal in Lee County
There's an additional $51,415,078 in grant funding coming to Lee County from FEMA for debris removal expenses after Hurricane Ian.The storm left extensive debris, resulting in a threat to public health and safety. Approximately 2,040,625 cubic yards of vegetative debris, 1,252,193 cubic yards of hurricane-generated debris, and 217 tons of hazardous materials were removed from roads and public property in the county. Previously, FEMA had awarded $16,853,000 for these costs.

Charlotte, Lee counties to open cold weather shelter as temps dip
The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures in the low 40s with wind chill dropping them to the 30s in Southwest Florida has prompted Charlotte and Lee county officials to make cold weather shelters available.
Lee superintendent stepping down seven months ahead of partisan vote to select new superintendent
Christopher S. Bernier has lead the 9th largest school district in the state since May 2022. Ken Savage is expected to take over as interim superintendent — again.
Suspect in threat that lead to multiple school lockdowns detained by Cape Coral police
Several Cape Coral schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning for several hours.Cape Coral High School, Heritage Charter Academy, Skyline Elementary, Challenger Middle School and Patriot Elementary were placed on lockdown as a precaution after a possible threat at the high school on Santa Barbara Boulevard South.All lockdowns were lifted shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Lee County gets another 30-day extension on documents for FEMA
Lee County originally received a 30-day extension to provide documents to FEMA by May 9. A new extension the county received Friday puts June 10 as the new deadline for document submittal.
