Federal firings filtering down to workers in Southwest Florida; Big Cypress NP, Bay Pines VA affected
One person was laid off at Big Cypress National Park and “several” are now without jobs at Bay Pines VA Hospital as federal downsizing under the Trump Administration begins to affect Southwest Florida.The person out of a job at Big Cypress was on a probationary period and was laid off on Tuesday, Feb. 18, said Michelle Hanson, lands and permits coordinator at the park.

Fort Myers awarded nearly $15M for wellfield expansion project
The City of Fort Myers will build two new water wells, using nearly $15 million that was awarded to the city last September. The money is part of a $1.1 billion grant from the federal Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant—Disaster Recover (CDBG-DR). The money was allocated following Hurricane Ian to help Lee County with long-term recovery.

Annette Trossbach retiring from Laboratory Theater of Florida
On Saturday, the Laboratory Theater of Florida announced that Annette Trossbach is retiring as its producing artistic director. Trossbach founded the lab in 2009. During her 16 years at the helm, she established the lab as a bastion for innovative, groundbreaking theater productions. Along the way, she transformed local theater into a safe and acceptable environment in which artists and audiences can explore, discover and expand personal horizons and raise their social consciousness.
