Lee's Black History Society, Edison and Ford Winter Estates honor reciprocal membership in January
Lee County Black History Society and Edison and Ford Winter Estates is offering free daytime admission during the month of January to either museum with membership to one of the organizations.The reciprocal agreement is for daytime admission at Edison and Ford Winter Estates for members of the Lee County Black History Society.
Public hearings scheduled in Lee County for HUD housing programs
Lee County will host a series of public hearings in accordance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations governing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant, and HOME programs.The county stressed that the meetings are part of the county’s annual allocation of HUD funding and are not related to disaster recovery.

U.S. 41 & 17 projects in Punta Gorda poised to start this fall
Major upgrades along two key corridors in Punta Gorda will be getting underway this fall.The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One will start work on a project affecting both S.R. 35 (U.S. 17) and Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow.

Birmingham-Southern makes the College World Series, even as the school closes
The Birmingham-Southern College's baseball team is scheduled to play in the College World Series on May 31 — the same day their school is set to shut down permanently.
North Port referendum to approve borrowing for emergencies, public safety set for second reading
A second reading will be July 23 on an ordinance to put a referendum on the November ballot amending the North Port City Charter.If approved it would allow the commission to issue debt to respond to emergencies or pay for safety and public health projects.
Lee Commissioners award $1M Ian recovery funds to Fort Myers
A portion of the more than $1 billion Lee County received in Hurricane Ian recovery funds has been approved for Fort Myers.Lee County Commissioners on Tuesday approved awarding $1,072,824 from the Lee Board of County Commissioners for Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) to Fort Myers as part of ongoing Hurricane Ian recovery and resiliency projects.
U.S. DOJ sues five for violating Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act in Fort Myers
Five people are at the center of a federal lawsuit claiming violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which prohibits using force, threats of force or physical obstruction against any person because they are seeking or providing reproductive health services.The Justice Department filed the suit Thursday in the Middle District of Florida against five people for violating the FACE Act.
