Charlotte County teacher/coach suspended after arrest on charges of sexual abuse with a minor
A Charlotte County Public Schools teacher/coach is on administrative leave for an issue a school official said is “serious.” The official confirmed the district is cooperating with an investigation by Punta Gorda police.
Water quality monitoring station to be unveiled at Mound House on Fort Myers Beach
Mound House, a museum dedicated to the history of Fort Myers Beach, has a new public water quality monitoring station. The station collects 14 types of water quality data, including temperature, salinity, turbidity, pH and depth.

'The Sparrow Family' is the focus of 2025 Black Birders Week
Black Birders Week 2025 runs Sunday thru May 31 with the theme "The Sparrow Family."The annual week is organized by “The Black AF In STEM Collective” – a group which “seeks to support, uplift, and amplify Black Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics professionals in natural resources and the environment through professional development, career connection, and community engagement.”
Replicating history at Bonita Springs Elementary School
A historic school in Southwest Florida will be remodeled and is expected to reopen in just over two years. That's according to an agreement announced Monday between the Lee County School District and the City of Bonita Springs.
Island Water Association requests members conserve water and follow irrigation schedule
Those using water from the Island Water Association for irrigation on Sanibel and Captiva are being asked to adhere to approved local watering schedules.The IWA issued a caution that ongoing dry weather and increased turf and landscape replanting related to redevelopment activity have created extremely high irrigation demands.

Gender reveal planned after Naples Zoo 'blessed event' -- twin ring-tailed lemurs are born
The Naples Zoo today announced the birth of two endangered ring-tailed lemurs, born on March 25. Parents, PJ and Julien, were genetically matched by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums cooperatively managed Species Survival Plan Program.
