Fentanyl crisis in Southwest Florida: a community responds
In southwest Florida, communities are fighting with the growing fentanyl crisis. The powerful synthetic opioid has become increasingly prevalent, leading to a surge in overdoses. In response, local organizations and law enforcement are increasing efforts to address the crisis and support affected individuals.

Federal suit alleges Collier family sold contaminated land to state
A lawsuit unsealed Thursday in a Florida federal court claims one of the state's most prominent and politically connected families — the Colliers — lied to state officials and covered up a hazardous waste site contaminated with lethal Creosote. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, Fort Myers, alleges claims by Sonja Eddings Brown — described as a longtime aide to family matriarch Parker Collier and a "whistleblower" — that the Colliers bamboozled the state of Florida into paying $30 million for a site near Everglades National Park while concealing the fact that it was contaminated with lethal hazardous waste.
Boil water advisory lifted for area of line break off McGregor Blvd.
A precautionary boil water notice has been lifted for the 312 addresses affected by a water line break in the vicinity of McGregor Boulevard and San Roberto Circle.A boil water alert was issued for that area after an outside contractor hit a 6” water line at about 3 p.m. Thursday. City officials said the leak was small, but the isolation process required impacted several neighborhoods in the vicinity of the break.

Sewer line smoke testing on Sanibel to start Monday, July 21
From Monday, July 21, through Friday, August 8, inspection crews will conduct a smoke test of sewer lines in neighborhoods throughout the island.The test includes a physical survey of the City of Sanibel wastewater collection system and involves opening manholes on streets and easements.
Coast Guard medevacs fishing boat captain miles off Sanibel
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater aircrew medevac'd a 77-year-old fishing boat captain Sunday experiencing stroke-like symptoms while in the Gulf about 138 miles southwest of Sanibel Island.The man was safely transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers.
