Coast Guard rescues five people aboard disabled boat near Sanibel
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater aircrew rescued two children and three adults, Wednesday, after their 28-foot vessel became disabled, 30 miles west of Sanibel Island.No injuries were reported.

Lee County advises residents to keep yards waste-free ahead of potential storms
Lee County is encouraging residents to prepare their yards for potential storms while hurricane season is still young. Trimming trees and branches, thinning foliage and removing items that can be picked up by the wind are recommended by the county.
Charlotte County to form emergency pool of workers for help before and after hurricanes
Some 150 people were hired by Charlotte county after Hurricane Helen hit the Gulf Coast. The county is hoping to have an emergency pool of workers ahead of any future storms.

North Port University program helps citizens understand city operations

Naples Botanical Garden uses prescribed fire to cut wildfire fuel
Naples Botanical Garden is conducting a prescribed fire on approximately 2 acres in the facility's preserve, beginning late Tuesday morning and lasting several hours. Fire-certified garden staff will monitor the area into the evening and the following days to ensure no hot spots go undetected.
FPL rate settlement cuts request by nearly a third, limits average annual bill increases to 2%
Florida Power & Light Company and 10 key stakeholder groups filed a comprehensive four-year rate settlement agreement with state regulators Wednesday that reduces FPL's original revenue request by approximately 30%.
