State Board of Education releases school grades for 2022-23; Collier, Sarasota districts get 'A' marks
School grades for the 2022-23 school year were released by the Florida Department of Education on Monday with Collier and Sarasota counties posting the only 'A' grades among Southwest Florida districts.As a part of Florida’s first-in-the-nation transition to using progress monitoring instead of traditional high stakes testing, grades for the 2022-2023 school year serve as a baseline and carry no negative consequences.

Art Center Sarasota celebrates its 100th year, among 32 local art shows this month
From Sarasota to Marco Island and Venice and Sanibel to Arcadia and LaBelle, Southwest Florida is home to more than a dozen art centers. Most host visual art exhibitions showcasing member, regional and nationally renowned artists that change every month. In October, there are 32 shows at these venues, underscoring the importance of the arts in our part of the country.

Sarasota Art Museum celebrates 100th anniversary of Art Deco with exhibition of 100 rare advertisement posters
Art Deco was known as the Golden Age of Illustration. To celebrate its centenary, the Sarasota Art Museum opens an exhibition at the end of the month that features 100 rare fine art advertisement posters created during the 1920s and ‘30s by some of the world’s earliest, master graphic designers. Executive Director Virginia Shearer explains why these posters are so rare.

Sarasota man among nine from Florida, Ohio facing charges in alleged health care fraud schemes
A Sarasota man is among nine people from Florida and Ohio charged in connection with alleged schemes to defraud programs entrusted for the care of the elderly and disabled, and to obtain controlled substances through fraud. The charges filed in the Middle District of Florida are part of the Department of Justice’s 2024 National Health Care Fraud Enforcement Action.
