Sarasota man indicted in fraud scheme while living in Naples
A Sarasota man is now under indictment on charges of wire fraud, money laundering and making a false tax return. The indictment was unsealed Thursday against Brent Adam Seaman, 51. He is facing five counts of wire fraud, four counts of money laundering, and two counts of making a false tax return.
Annual Punta Gorda seawall assessment set Jan. 9-March 1
From January 9, through March 1, Punta Gorda will be running its annual seawall assessment.During low tide periods, city staff will inspect seawalls in the southwest and southeast zones of Punta Gorda Isles. The boundary of these zones is Aqui Esta Drive, Punta Gorda Isles perimeter canal, Almar Drive, Muscovie Court, and around the tract of land known as Bird Navigation.

FWC seeks reports of sightings in Florida of rare rainbow snake
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is asking the public to report sightings of the elusive rainbow snake (Farancia erytrogramma), a nonvenomous species whose population has declined in recent decades.
Deadline little more than a month away for Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve photography contest
Entries are being accepted for the Friends of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve 2026 Photo Contest honoring Carolyn Babb. The deadline is Jan. 31, 2026. The contest is limited to amateur photographers and only digital entries can be submitted. Photos must be of native species and must have been taken at the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, which includes Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve North.
