An American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with an Army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, prompting a large search-and-rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River. There were multiple fatalities, according to a person familiar with the matter, but the precise number of victims was unclear as rescue crews hunted for any survivors.Three soldiers were onboard the helicopter, an Army official said.

Work on the Burnt Store Isles widening project started on Jan. 17 with the project expected to run to June 2.Punta Gorda officials said that the contractor is currently mobilizing equipment and materials to the staging area with work on turning soil as early as February 3.

Southwest Florida International Airport turned in a record-setting year for passenger traffic in 2024 with nearly three-quarters of a million more people filing through the Lee County air travel site.That increased passenger traffic was also reflected during December when 1,121,793 passengers traveled through RSW. This was an increase of 2.5 percent compared to December 2023. Year-to-date, passenger traffic was up 9.5 percent.

Resurfacing and milling operations will resume Jan. 13 for Siesta Key after being suspended due to Hurricane Helene and Milton .Work will be done on local and residential roads first.Construction will occur Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., not including holidays. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2025.
