This time on the Book Club, Lauren Redniss’s Oak Flat: A Fight for Sacred Land in the American West. This graphic nonfiction tells the story of three generations of an Apache family trying to preserve their sacred land from a multinational mining company. Simple drawings on gorgeous thick paper are the backdrop for straight prose, poetry, and all sorts of writing. Author Lauren Redniss is the recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant and is a National Book Award finalist. The battle over the land is working its way through the courts even now.
