As this 2021 novel begins, the unnamed main character moves to The Hague to take a job as an interpreter at the International Criminal Court. When she is asked to interpret for a political leader accused of horrific genocidal acts, she struggles with how reliably she can count on language for truthful communication. Katie Kitamura’s Intimacies was nominated for a National Book Award in fiction. Kitamura's latest, Audition, was nominated for the Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award in fiction.
