Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton

We meet Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton. She’s the President of the Florida Sheriff’s Association and was recently appointed to the National Sheriff’s Association Board of Directors.

Born in Miami, Benton has a Master’s degree from Troy State University and is a Certified Public Manager from FSU. She started as a PE teacher but has been a police officer since 1974. She’s also worked in the schools and as a DCF Foster Care Counselor.

We’ll find out how one of only two women sheriff’s in Florida became the leader she is today.
