As PBS stations across the country continue airing the ten-park, 18-hour documentary series The Vietnam War, veterans advocates across the nation are using the moment to reach out to vets who may be seeking help, a person to discuss their military service with, or coming to terms with undiagnosed trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.
Captain John G. Bunch with Operation Open Arms, and Stephen Voigt, the Fort Myers Vets Center director, joins Gulf Coast Live to discuss how they're using the airing of the documentary series to reach out to veterans in Southwest Florida, how they can find support while experiencing the detailed retrospective of the Vietnam War, and how they can access the help they need.
The first five episodes of the Ken Burns and Lynn Novick series The Vietnam War aired this past week on WGCU at 8 p.m., with the final five episodes airing Sunday through Thursday at 8 p.m. Beginning on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., WGCU is re-airing the first week of episodes back-to-back.
