Today marks the beginning of a new fiscal year in Florida government with a nearly $91 billion dollar budget. Today also marks the day when a number of new laws take effect that were passed by elected officials in this year’s annual legislative session.

The new laws cover a broad spectrum of topics and will impact K-12 students and their families, motorists, patients immigrants and Florida’s agriculture community. We sit down with WGCU’s legislative analyst, John Davis, to get a breakdown of some of these other laws taking effect today, including a law that makes Florida one of the last states in the nation to make texting while driving a primary offense.
