We Preview the Next Meeting of Florida's Blue Green Algae Task Force

Florida Gulf Coast University
Dr. Mike Parsons

The State of Florida’s Blue Green Algae Task Force will meet for the fourth time this Friday, August 30 in Gainesville. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed on The Florida Channel. The task force’s five members are charged with finding ways to reduce the nutrient pollution that fuels toxic cyanobacteria blooms, and determine how resources might best be allocated to expedite nutrient reductions in Lake Okeechobee and the downstream estuaries.

We sat down with task force member, Dr. Mike Parsons to get a preview of Friday’s meeting, and talk about what they’re focusing on so far. Dr. Parsons is Professor of Marine Science at Florida Gulf Coast University, and Director of FGCU’s Coastal Watershed Institute and Vester Field Station, which is where the interview was conducted.
