While its official grand opening isn’t until next month, the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center of Southwest Florida has opened at its new location on Imperial Golf Course Blvd. in Naples. Since its unique beginning as a middle school classroom exhibit in the late 1990s, the museum and education center’s programs have reached more than 15,000 students a year, and hosted more than 5,000 visitors annually.
Right now there is a special exhibit at the museum about what’s called The Holodomor, it was a man-made famine in 1932-33 during which millions of Ukranians died of starvation. The Holodomor translates to "death by hunger." We’re going to learn about that historical event, and the exhibit, from Halyna Traversa. She’s a member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, and helped make the exhibit happen.
