Gene Healy has been an outspoken critic of executive power throughout his career as a political pundit, journalist and editor. He’s currently Vice President at the libertarian think tank Cato Institute, and a contributing editor to Libertymagazine. His research interests include executive power and the role of the presidency, as well as federalism and overcriminalization.
He is the author of a number of books including "False Idol: Barack Obama and the Continuing Cult of the Presidency" and "The Cult of the Presidency: America's Dangerous Devotion to Executive Power."
Healy holds a BA from Georgetown University, and a JD from the University of Chicago Law School. He was in Southwest Florida to give two two presentations on “Executive Power and the Role of the Presidency" – one as part of the Florida Gulf Coast University's Provost Lecture Series, the other with the Naples Discussion Group. We sat down to chat on Thursday, February 20th.
