There are many reasons a theater chooses the shows it produces each season. For North Fort Myers High School Theatre Director Janelle Laux, the choice of “SIX: Teen Edition” was all about showcasing the talent of the students who play Henry VIII’s six wives.

Commissioners commit to $500K loan for North Fort Myers affordable housing application

The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted to commit to a $500,000 dollar loan to support an application for a North Fort Myers affordable housing project Tuesday.Autumn Palm Lee, the company selected by the county for the project, is applying for funding through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation. The loan, which is from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, will only be used if this application is accepted.

Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores Receives USDA grant to help increase access to affordable biofuels in Florida.

Local Fort Myers artists, Cesar Aguilera(right) and Brian Weaver(left), created a mural at Bayshore Elementary showcasing the different “houses” the school uses to create camaraderie among the students. The mural was unveiled to the students Tuesday morning, January 9, 2024.

An artful duo from Southwest Florida has struck again. This time they have incorporated one Lee County school's way of teaching into a vibrant and eye-popping mural.

Both eagles vanished, E21 for nearly five days and E22 overnight. But both are now back in the nest.

After more than a month since Harriet, the female eagle, was last seen the eaglets are thriving under dad M15’s care. On Monday, March 27, the eaglets, E21 and E22, stretched their wings and spent time on the branches outside the nest. They are preparing to fledge (or take their first flight). E21 and E22 can be watched on the SWFL Eagle Cam installed by Dick Pritchett Real Estate at the Bayshore Road nest in North Fort Myers.

Continued food deliveries to the eagle nest along Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers by mobile delivery services have prompted an investigation by DoorDash.

Becky Lucas the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, spoke before the land was blessed. A Habitat for Humanity Land Dedication Ceremony was held Thursday, February 23. The site in North Fort Myers will eventually be home to 36 families. McNeill Village will honor Habitat employees who have dedicated more than 20 years to the affordable homeownership cause by naming a street, park, and pond after those employees. Lee Board of County Commissioners approve ARPA money for affordable housing, kickstarting the $2.5 million Affordable Housing Neighborhood.

While Harriet is away, for whatever the reason, the male, M15, has been taking care of the two eaglets born weeks ago, E21 and E22. He has been feeding them and defended the nest from a larger, female eagle who tried to intrude.

The newest eagle from the breeding eagle pair of Harriett and M15 in North Fort Myers, named E21, was hatched at 8:22 p.m. Wednesday, the time confirmed by Southwest Florida Eagle Cam on the 24-hour web cam site.
