Emmy Award Winning Comedy Writer Comes to Sarasota

Eleven-time Emmy award winner David Javerbaum comes to Sarasota Wednesday to speak about his latest book, “The Last Testament:  A Memoir by God.”

Javerbaum is a former head writer and executive producer of the popular TV news satire “The Daily Showwith Jon Stewart on Comedy Central.  He’s also written for the satirical newspaper “The Onion” and is a musical theater writer. In the book Javerbaum takes on the voice of God discussing everything from the Bible and the Koran to American Politics and celebrity gossip.  Chock full of jokes, Javerbaum says the book serves as a critique of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and it hasn’t been without its share of controversy.

“Simon and Schuster UK, they preemptively decided not to…it wasn’t even banned.  They pre-banned it. They said we’re not publishing it on the grounds that it might be inflammatory,” said Javerbaum.  “I was disappointed by that, but not as disappointed as I was by the fact that it did not get more publicity.

Javerbaum speaks Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee’s Beatrice Friedman Theater in Sarasota.
