Ban on Internet Cafes Heads to Senate Floor

A bill that would ban Internet cafes is heading to the Senate floor. The measure passed the Senate Rules Committee Tuesday morning, despite the pleas of dozens of seniors who'd traveled to Tallahassee to oppose it. But Senator John Thrasher, the bill's sponsor, said its purpose is to clarify what's already illegal.

"People have used the existing laws and the lack of clarity that, unfortunately, this Legislature hasn't given them, frankly, for the last several years, and used some of the technology to circumvent what I believe is clearly the prohibition of gambling in the state of Florida", said Thrasher.

The ban bill has already passed the House and could soon be on Governor Rick Scott's desk. Scott has said all options are open, and he'll wait to see the bill before deciding whether to sign it.
