Soto: Use Hardest Hit Funds to Keep Floridians in Their Homes

Florida has the highest foreclosure rate of any state in the nation, but some say the Legislature isn't doing enough to keep people in their homes. Congress set aside more than $1 billion in the 'Hardest Hit' program to help Floridians on the brink of foreclosure, but less than 20 percent of that money has been paid out.

State Senator Darren Soto is concerned the Legislature will use the money to fill other budgetary gaps or other housing needs.

"The current plan is misguided, because it doesn't focus on families that have been affected by foreclosure. This money is here to help us get out of this crisis", said  Soto.

Soto also says the money should be spent on legal aid for families in foreclosure and to help pay rent for those who have lost their homes.
