Eight Year Old Kidnapped-Murdered in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s office is holding back many details about the kidnapping and murder eight-year old Charish Perrywinkle. The girl was taken out of a Wal-Mart Friday evening. What’s believed to be her body was found near a church Saturday morning.

Jacksonville Sheriff's office Director of Investigations Mike Williams says they can’t reveal many details because it’s an ongoing investigation. He says the mother of the girl was befriended by the suspect a few hours earlier but had not met him previously.

Suspect Donald James Smith is a registered sex offender and has been charged kidnapping and murder. Smith has a long criminal record dating back to the mid-70’s. He was just released from jail May 31st.Williams credited the teamwork of participating law enforcement agencies a witness who called in a tip after an Amber Alert was issued to Smith being apprehended quickly.
