Investigations Continue Into Death of Chechen Man During FBI Interrogation in Orlando

State Attorney Jeff Ashton says he expects to conclude his investigation early next year into the death of a Chechen man during an FBI interrogation in Orlando. Ibragim Todashev was under investigation in connection to the Boston bombings. The FBI says he grew violent during an interrogation in May, forcing an agent to shoot him to death.

Family attorneys say Todashev was unarmed. They say he was an acquaintance of one of the suspected bombers but was not involved in the attack. Federal and state investigations are underway into his death and whether a criminal violation occurred.

Ashton met this week with the Justice Department about the investigations. He says he needs more time to process the information he gained from the meeting.

  • Animals in south Florida don’t have to worry much about winter cold – and indeed many migrants from areas farther north find suitable living conditions here. But, a trip to the beach or on a rare blustery day sometimes makes one wonder. How do ducks, herons, egrets, and other birds tolerate wading or swimming in cold weather? Aquatic birds, for example, have bare skinny legs with leg muscles placed among insulating feathers.Blood vessels going to and from the very few muscles in the legs and feet lie right next to one another, and cold blood going back into the body is warmed by warmer blood coming from the body – and is nearly the same temperature as the blood circulating in the well-insulated body.
