FGCU President Responds to Controversy Surrounding 'White Racism' Course

FGCU University Marketing and Communications
FGCU President Mike Martin speaks at the premiere of WGCU's documentary, “FGCU at 20: The Beginning,” on Aug. 17.";s:

A class coming up in January at Florida Gulf Coast University has been getting national attention as of late. Professor Ted Thornhill says his upcoming “White Racism” sociology class will “interrogate the concept of race; examine racist ideologies, laws, policies, and practices that have operated for hundreds of years to maintain white racial domination over those racialized as non-white; and discuss ways to challenge and disrupt white racism and dethrone white supremacy in the service of engendering an anti-racist society where whiteness is not tied to greater life chances.”

FGCU President, Dr. Mike Martin, released a statement Wednesday about the class. He told WGCU’s Mike Kiniry he’s using the letter to respond to the emails he’s been getting about the class.
