Big Cypress issues temporary area closing for prescribed fire
Boil water notice for South Fort Myers area off Winkler Road
Lee County Utilities has issued a precautionary Boil Water Notice to an estimated 580 residences in South Fort Myers off Winkler Road.The situation was caused by a contractor who hit a water main in the area.Neighborhoods impacted include those along Winkler Road from Banyan Bay to Woodgate Drive.
DeSantis backs $1.5 billion in Everglades funding in budget
Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday he will approve $1.5 billion directed towards Everglades cleanup that was included in the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, which he has not yet received.
Prized pink-tagged bass are swimming in Florida waters
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) TrophyCatch program has deployed bright pink research tags in bass across five waters throughout the state: the Northwest Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, Lake Lochloosa, Lake Beauclair, Lake Okeechobee and Porter Lake.
Boil water advisory along Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers now lifted
The boil water notice issued Wednesday for an area around Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers has been lifted.The original water main break was on Treeline just north of Treeline Elementary School in a 24-inch line, which is the biggest line in the city. Repair crews have fixed the issue.
Lee County's Manatee Park offers warm refuge for sea cows
The water at Manatee Park in Lee County is normally filled with manatees looking for a less frigid refuge in the warm water just down from the Florida Power and Light Power Plant across the street during the cooler months of Southwest Florida's year.
Collier County Mosquito Control to offer free mosquitofish June 1
Collier County Mosquito Control will be distributing free mosquito fish and traps Saturday at North Collier Regional Park.The fish, Gambusia mosquitofish, are small but can eat up to 100 mosquito larvae a day. Since the program started in 2019, the District has given out more than 23,000 fish.
