Song Challenges Brought Musicians Together During the Early Days of the Pandemic
When businesses shut down and people began to isolate themselves due to the coronavirus back in March, a local musician found a way to keep his peers’ connected and their creativity flowing by creating weekly songwriting challenges. We’ll hear from some of the participants and the songs they made during “Songwriter Quarantine.”

Wildlife biologist and author connects the genetic dots between humans and wildlife to make a case that we aren’t separate from nature
In his latest book, "Four Fifths a Grizzly: A New Perspective on Nature that Just Might Save Us All," Chadwick explores the surprisingly close relationship between human DNA and that of mammals like grizzly bears, with whom we share 80 percent of our DNA. In it, he reflects on the value of exposure to nature on human biochemistry and mentality, that we are not that far removed from our ancestors who lived closer to nature.

Sanibel artist Lucas Century recounts his time working on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
In the early 1980s Sanibel-based artist Lucas Century learned of the effort to create the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. He believe an engraving technique he'd developed could help the project along, and he was right. All of the more than 58,000 names engraved into black granite were done so using his method, which saved the memorial's timeline and budget.

36 People Killed In Coal Mine Explosions And Fire, Russia Says
The explosions, which occurred over several days, are being blamed on a buildup of methane gas. When the first one shook the mine in the Komi Republic in northwest Russia, 111 miners were underground.
