'Puppy Love' plagued Donny Osmond and a DJ in LA: Song of the Day for March 15
On March 15, 1972, Los Angeles police raided the studios of KHJ radio, fearing the station had been taken over by hippies or teenyboppers after the station played "Puppy Love" for 90 minutes straight.
'Straighten Up and Fly Right' by Nat King Cole: Song of the Day for March 24
Billboard released its very first popular album chart on March 24, 1945. At the top was the first number one album "The Nat King Cole Trio." Our Song of the Day, "Straighten Up and Fly Right" appeared on that album and was an instant crossover hit on the pop, R&B and country charts.

Florenz Ziegfield had chutzpah, if he didn’t, he never would have made the Broadway musical “Showboat.” The musical premiered December 27, 1928, in Ziegfield’s new theater. “Showboat” had a great score with such songs as “Ol Man River,” “Make Believe” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” but it was more serious than the musicals of the day that made it different.
