Tropical disturbance forming near Bahamas could impact southeast
The National Hurricane Center is tracking an area just northeast of the Bahamas where a tropical depression may develop later this week.Global forecast models have been showing an area of low pressure forming in the area north of the Bahamas in the early part of this week before moving inland toward the Florida peninsula and/or the southeastern United States by the weekend.This is just one of two areas of interest being tracked by the National Hurricane Center. The other system is forming in the Gulf of Mexico in the Bay of Campeche.

The popular North Fort Myers-sited live web cam, which has been keeping an eye on this specific nest for the past 13 seasons, has been watching the mated eagle pair preparing earlier than normal for their offspring.
Annual Punta Gorda seawall assessment set Jan. 9-March 1
From January 9, through March 1, Punta Gorda will be running its annual seawall assessment.During low tide periods, city staff will inspect seawalls in the southwest and southeast zones of Punta Gorda Isles. The boundary of these zones is Aqui Esta Drive, Punta Gorda Isles perimeter canal, Almar Drive, Muscovie Court, and around the tract of land known as Bird Navigation.
