Reversing earlier statements, London authorities now say a man plainclothes officers trailed to a city subway station and then shot to death Friday had no apparent connection to the bombings of July 21. Police have yet to name the man.

Democrats are running an ad in Montana scorching GOP Sen. Conrad Burns for taking $136,000 from Jack Abramoff, the well-connected lobbyist in trouble for huge casino tribe billings. Burns got a $3 million appropriation for an Abramoff client. The Republicans are crying foul, saying he did it to help two Democratic senators.

In Britain, A New Push To Loosen EU Ties
The political landscape of Europe is changing. The Eurozone debt crisis is fueling opposition to the European Union. The EU has created a huge single market, and has brought decades of stability to a region once ravaged by terrible wars. Yet some Europeans are beginning to wonder if they still want to be part of it. Illustrating the changing mood, Britain's Parliament voted Monday on whether to hold a public referendum on leaving the union.

Sen. Burns Scrutinized for Earmark Tied to Abramoff
An earmark linked to lobbyist Jack Abramoff threatens the political career of Montana Sen. Conrad Burns. Burns helped steer money to a wealthy tribe from Michigan that employed Abramoff. At the same, the impoverished Blackfeet tribe of Montana says the senator ignored its plight.
