Fed Expected to Lower Federal Funds Rate
Federal Reserve policy makers are expected to cut a key interest rate today, in what would be the first cut to the federal funds rate in more than four years. Those calling for the cut say it could will make it easier to borrow — and reassure jittery financial markets hard-hit by this year's mortgage meltdown.

Venezuelans go to the polls Sunday to vote on a hefty set of constitutional reforms that would give President Hugo Chavez greater power and also lift presidential term limits. But in the run-up to the vote, several key Chavez supporters have turned against him. Plus, a number of polls suggest that Chavez's proposed reforms may be defeated at the ballot box.

Experts Keep Close Eye on Quake-Damaged Dams
Recovery efforts in Dujiangyan, China are also focused on hydropower dams around the ancient city. The epicenter of last week's massive earthquake was near the huge Zipingpu dam, cracking its walls. Officials say Zipingpu is structurally safe and are releasing water to decrease pressure. Scientists warn that if the dam fails, the destruction would be even greater than the quake. NPR's Steve Inskeep speaks with NPR's Melissa Block.

After a decade-long legal fight, a federal judge Friday ordered Florida to make changes to keep children with “complex” medical conditions out of nursing homes and help them receive care in their family homes or communities.
