The worst of Hurricane Ivan seems to be over for residents of Mobile, Ala., where the storm made landfall early Thursday morning. Several storm-related deaths and heavy damage are reported in the Florida Panhandle, which is now bearing the brunt of the storm. Hear NPR's Adam Hochberg.

Yes, tsunamis, although with low frequency, can happen and affect the East Coast. They would be triggered by different mechanisms.
Isaac Cuts Off Power To Gulf Coast Residents
While Hurricane Issac is less powerful than Katrina which struck seven years ago, it has already cut off power to hundreds of thousands of people. In addition water has topped a levee in southeastern Louisiana.

Gulf Coast Hunkers Down For Isaac's Wind And Rain
People along a wide swath of the Gulf of Mexico coastline are making preparations for Tropical Storm Isaac. The storm is headed toward New Orleans, and is scheduled to develop into a hurricane that could make landfall as early as Tuesday.

Media coverage after the storm focused on New Orleans, but the damage was just as bad, and sometimes worse, in Mississippi. Ten years on, slow recovery in places like East Biloxi has left many behind.
