Construction to begin on Able Canal shared-use pathway in Lehigh Acres
Construction on the Able Canal shared-use pathway in Lehigh Acres is to begin today. Flagging and staging activity should be expected at Lehigh Acres Park, but there will be no impact to park users during construction.The nearly $10.2 million project will create a 12-foot-wide, 5.58-mile asphalt path along the north side of the Able Canal. It will include a pedestrian bridge, pavilions, landscaping and other amenities.
AAA rolling out safety net to help stop drunk drivers during holidays
The Triple A Auto Club is again offering its Tow-To-Go program, now through January 2nd.As a last resort, Floridians who have had too much to drink can request a tow truck to pick them up along with their vehicle. Island Water Association requests members conserve water and follow irrigation schedule
Those using water from the Island Water Association for irrigation on Sanibel and Captiva are being asked to adhere to approved local watering schedules.The IWA issued a caution that ongoing dry weather and increased turf and landscape replanting related to redevelopment activity have created extremely high irrigation demands.
Big Cypress National Preserve issues temporary trail closure
A temporary trail closure in the Big Cypress National Preserve is in effect after the discovery Saturday of a more than 340-acre fire east of State Road 29 and north of Deep Lake.The temporary closures include the Deep Lake Trail (including Trail Head) and the Fire Prairie Trail. During the closure all recreational use including off-road vehicles, hiking, camping, hunting and commercial activities are prohibited in the designated areas.
Annual FGCU coding camp brings computer language, artificial intelligence education to students
Florida Gulf Coast University’s math department is hosting its annual coding camp from June 30 to July 3. The camp focuses on the coding language python, game-building, artificial intelligence and guest sessions with industry professionals. Rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders are eligible to participate.
