Charlotte County, Punta Gorda set temporary burn ban; Five other counties limit use of fire
The Charlotte County Commission and the City of Punta Gorda have imposed a ban on all outdoor burning, including the use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers, due to ongoing drought conditions and increased fire risk.Burn bans also remain in effect in Collier, Sarasota, Glades, Hendry and Highlands counties in Southwest Florida.

Calusa Waterkeeper mourns the loss of Captain Codty Pierce
Codty Pierce, a local charter boat captain with deep roots in Southwest Florida’s environment, became the Calusa Waterkeeper just about two years ago. The Lee County native grew up fishing the local waters and observing the hydrology and environments of Pine Island Sound, Charlotte Harbor, and Estero Bay and had experience in wetlands restoration and native landscaping.Today, the environmental organization he helmed is in mourning with the news that Pierce died Monday."As the heart and soul of our organization, Codty’s unwavering commitment to protecting the waters of Southwest Florida and his fearless advocacy for the environment have left an indelible mark on all who knew him," Connie Ramos-Williams, the Calusa Waterkeeper Executive Director, said in a statement about Pierce's death.

LeeTran activating route changes for River District trolleys and Fort Myers Beach trams on Thursday
LeeTran will end the seasonal River District trolleys and Fort Myers Beach trams at the end close of service on April 23. Additionally, the Lehigh Park & Ride/Transfer will begin operation on April 24.
Manatee Moves: A free ride for veterans to medical appointments
A new, free and on-demand transportation service is now in operation to help veterans easily reach medical appointments.Provided by Manatee County’s Veterans Services and Transportation divisions ‘Manatee Moves’ will directly connect county veterans to health providers by utilizing a rideshare service. Accessible through a smartphone app, Manatee Moves is open to all pre-registered veterans who can walk on their own, or who use an assistance device like a folding walker.
