Red Cross offering financial assistance to Floridians impacted by hurricanes Helene, Milton
Individuals impacted by Hurricanes Helene or Milton may be eligible for financial assistance through the American Red Cross. The Red Cross is providing financial assistance to Floridians whose homes suffered major damage or were destroyed by the hurricanes and who still face obstacles in their recovery. Red Cross financial assistance is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.

Audubon’s Everglades Science Center team is calling on bird enthusiasts across the state to search for Roseate Spoonbills and report banded birds on this form.Nearly 3,000 birds have been banded since 2003. One of the most well-known and popular retail fireworks companies in the United States has put fireworks production on pause. Phantom Fireworks, which has permanent outlets across Southwest Florida and other parts of the state, and erects temporary tents during the Fourth of July season, is getting blasted by the 145 percent tariff placed on Chinese goods by President Trump.
Big Cypress National Preserve issues temporary trail closure
A temporary trail closure in the Big Cypress National Preserve is in effect after the discovery Saturday of a more than 340-acre fire east of State Road 29 and north of Deep Lake.The temporary closures include the Deep Lake Trail (including Trail Head) and the Fire Prairie Trail. During the closure all recreational use including off-road vehicles, hiking, camping, hunting and commercial activities are prohibited in the designated areas.
