Wandering black bear trapped on FGCU campus, relocated by FWC
FWC personnel trapped and relocated a black bear from the Florida Gulf Coast University campus on Monday.The trapping follows an alert and sightings of bears around campus in the past week.FGCU police report the animal has been relocated from campus to more suitable habitat.

Sarasota County expects $210,094,000 in additional hurricane recovery funding
Sarasota County will get a new $210,094,000 allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery to assist with recovery and mitigation efforts from Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton and Tropical Storm Debby.The county created the Resilient SRQ program in 2023 to support Hurricane Ian recovery from the prior allocation of $201,535,000 in CDBG-DR funding. It assists the community in rebuilding homes, repairing infrastructure and addressing unmet needs from Hurricane Ian.

SWFL arrests made in cybercrime cases involving child sexual abuse material
The arrest of three men in connection with separate and unrelated child sexual abuse material cases was described today by Florida Attorney General James Uthemeyer at a media briefing in Fort Myers.Those arrested included former LaBelle resident 46-year-old Jason Harrison of Jacksonville, 41-year-old Kevin Sheffield of Naples and 34-year-old Travis Montgomery of Bradenton.
