Red Flag Warning issued for area including Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for today due to critically low humidity with gusty winds resulting in elevated fire danger in areas of Southwest Florida.The National Weather Service issued the Fire Weather Warning for an area including Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota and Manatee counties from noon to 8 p.m. today.
Plantings at Sanibel's Lighthouse Beach to help stabilize the area
Sanibel's Natural Resources Department has been busy preparing for the final phase of the Lighthouse Beach renourishment project by preparing to plant nearly 30,000 pieces of dune vegetation. Yesterday, a team was out sorting, measuring, and preparing the area for plantings made on Thursday.
Corkscrew Regional Watershed planning prescribed burn today
The South Florida Water Management District plans to conduct a 26-acre prescribed burn in the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) Management Area in Lee County today.. The burn unit is in the CREW Management Area, approximately 6 miles west of SR 82 and 1.3 miles south of Corkscrew Road. Smoke may be visible in the area of the burn.

Lee County Utilities to end free chlorine flush, customers can expect some changes
Lee County Utilities will end its routine free chlorine flush on May 21. It will convert its disinfection process back to the use of chloramines. The flush began May 1.

Motorists can expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours on northbound and southbound I-75 over the Peace River Bridge.Work will be conducted from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Sunday, April 6 through Friday, April 11.
