Taste of victory: Southwest Florida man devours key lime pie for top prize
In Key West, this July Fourth, the lure of the lime ... as in Key lime ... was on full display. Hundreds of spectators packed the Southernmost City in the Continental United States to see who would claim the coveted Key Lime Pie Eating Champ title. Those with an eye on the pies, delivered a show-stopping performance.With hands behind backs and some sporting safety goggles, 25 hopefuls competed for the top prize; devouring the island city’s signature dessert — the key lime pie.
Naples Airport to ‘fight water with water’ to fend off storm surge
To help stave off future storm surge situations, the Naples Airport’s operations team recently completed training on a new flood barrier system designed to protect the airport’s buildings, vital equipment and technology.Naples Airport Authority purchased 3,000 feet of industrial-grade flexible tubing. Filled with water, linked together and anchored into place the tubing creates an airtight barrier proven more effective than sandbags at holding back floodwaters.

Florida Wildlife Federation, Gulf Partnership announce $450,000 investment to accelerate Florida land conservation
The Florida Wildlife Federation is collaborating with the Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation (Gulf Partnership) to provide $150,000 annually over the next three years, a total of $450,000, to support land and easement acquisitions across Florida.The partnership was announced Tuesday morning.Funding will be directed to the Gulf Partnership’s Project Assistance Fund, which helps cover critical expenses associated with conservation transactions — a crucial step in securing permanent protection for Florida’s natural and working lands.
